Dear Prospective Student:
We are pleased to know of your interest in our Master of Science Physician Assistant Program within the Department of Physician Assistant Studies at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM).
The Physician Assistant Program at PCOM is truly a program of educational excellence that consists of a dedicated, experienced faculty, excellent academic facilities, and a challenging didactic and clinical phase offering the graduate Master of Science degree.
Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, chartered in 1899, is committed to educating community-responsive, primary care-oriented Physicians and Physician Assistants to practice medicine in the 21st century. PCOM is a premier school of osteopathic medical education and the only osteopathic medical school that offers Physician Assistant medical education in Pennsylvania. Supported by the latest in medical and educational technology, PCOM emphasizes treating the whole person, not merely the symptoms.
Our PA program provides early "hands on" medical education during the professional phase. Our students have a committed, professional, humanistic faculty who are leaders in the osteopathic and Physician Assistant national health care community. Our students will benefit from the Physicians, Physician Assistants and other health care professionals who act as their mentors during their professional medical education. Our PA program provides a thorough foundation in health care delivery focusing on comprehensive, humanistic health care. This broad-based foundation provides extensive opportunities for our students to further explore the continuum of medicine.
This unique graduate-level program provides you with the ability to positively affect the lives of your patients, their families, your employers and your local health care community. We will expect and empower you to become life-long learners, preparing you for the challenges of caring for the entire patient, young or old, from the emergency room to the operating room, from rural parts of our country to the most urban areas of our rapidly-growing cities. You will be there taking an active role in caring for your patients.
We hope you will carefully consider medical education as a future Physician Assistant. Our profession is growing rapidly, and the health care system of the future will welcome well-prepared Physician Assistants. We offer a broad-based medical education and clinical skills that will provide you with confidence and educational excellence.
If you are submitting an application to the program, remember that the earlier we have your completed application, the earlier we can start reviewing your application to our Physician Assistant program. We look forward to meeting you if and when you visit our campus; until then, please browse our Web site to learn more about our College and program.
