Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine offers graduate programs in the field of psychology taught by an internationally renowned, highly credentialed faculty. All faculty members in PCOM's Psychology Department are teaching faculty who work closely with students to help them achieve their professional goals. Students often have the opportunity to coauthor scholarly papers, books and professional presentations with faculty.
In addition, because it is part of a respected medical college, the Psychology Department is able to offer unique learning opportunities. PCOM has one of the only psychology departments in the country that provides a standardized patient program. The standardized patient program presents authentic clinical learning and skills situations in which "patients" simulate mental health conditions. Students conduct sessions with the patients, which are videotaped and reviewed by faculty to help train and assess the students' skills. Students in the psychology programs also have the opportunity for clinical experience at one of the College's urban healthcare centers.
Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology (PsyD)
A doctoral program in clinical psychology is offered, leading to the PsyD. This program is designed for students who have previously earned a Master's degree in a behavioral science. The PsyD program in Clinical Psychology is accredited by the American Psychological Association (Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation: 750 First Street, NE, Washington, DC 20002-4242; 202-336-5979; http://www.apa.org/ed/accreditation).
School Psychology Programs
The school psychology program offers a master of science and an educational specialist degree as preparation for school psychology and the PsyD as preparation for professional school psychologists to be capable of research, leaders in the field, and skilled practitioners.
Doctor of Psychology in School Psychology (PsyD)
The NASP approved doctorate of psychology (PsyD) degree in school psychology is an innovative, applied professional psychology program with a specialty track in Cognitive Behavior Therapy. It builds on the advanced training and experience of the school psychologist and is designed to enhance their role and prepare leaders in psycho-educational and mental health services to children, youth, and families.
Educational Specialist Degree in School Psychology (EdS)
This program prepares students to become highly skilled certified school psychologists. It is designed for working professionals who have previously earned a master's degree.
Master of Science in School Psychology (MS)
This 14-month program endows a background in psychological and educational components that are applicable to the field of school psychology. Taken in sequence with the Ed.S. in School Psychology, it leads to Pennsylvania School Psychologist Certification.
Master of Science in Counseling and Clinical Health Psychology (MS)
This program prepares students to provide evaluation, counseling and therapy services in a wide variety of clinical settings with an emphasis on using psychological interventions in the treatment of medical problems. This program includes two tracks: 1) the 48-credit General Track and 2) the 60-credit Addictions and Offender Counseling Track.
Master of Science in Organizational Development and Leadership (MS)
Designed with the working professional in mind, the master of science degree program in Organizational Development and Leadership prepares human resource (HR) and other professionals to use theory, skills and techniques of organization building and leadership to become leaders in their field.
Post-Doctoral Certificates in Clinical Health Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology
PCOM's Post-Doctoral Certificates in Clinical Health Psychology & in Clinical Neuropsychology each provide one year (16 and 19 credits respectively) of specialty training to doctoral-level psychologists or current PCOM Clinical PsyD students that will enable them to render ethical comprehensive services in medical settings and to medical patients.
Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Psychology (CAGS)
CAGS provides graduate-level psychology and counseling courses with two tracks: Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Professional Psychology. The CAGS program is designed for master's level students and may be used to complete the curriculum required with a master's degree to take the licensure exam that leads to a Licensed Professional Counselor credential in Pennsylvania. |
