When you select Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine as a clinical rotation site, you become an integral part of a patient care team. Externs at PCOM are provided with hands-on care in a challenging academic environment, working closely with interns, residents and clinical faculty.
Each month, 100 externs rotate through PCOM's 25 specialty services, available through the College's two affiliated teaching hospitals - a consortium of over 500 beds. Providing clinical training through such a hospital consortium guarantees a diverse patient mix, ensuring students varied and abundant patient care experiences.
Providing quality medical education is at the core of PCOM's rich tradition. Our clinical faculty is committed to providing comprehensive training to third- and fourth-year medical students. Faculty at each hospital conduct a formal series of daily lectures and regular teaching rounds on each service and help students to develop individual patient care styles.
Through their clinical experience, externs have the opportunity to develop skills in bedside differential diagnosis and invasive and non-invasive procedures. Doing clinical rotations at PCOM will also provide students with the opportunity to evaluate the College's graduate medical education program for future internship, residency and fellowship work.
Choosing PCOM may be the easiest decision you make as a physician.
