PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The intern's year is structured to provide maximum exposure to the fields of medicine and surgery as well as training in pediatrics, emergency medicine and OB/GYN. The rotating internship offers flexibility for intern tracks and emphasis programs, and is supported by significant depth in all residency fields, with a total of 120 residents.
"When interns select PCOM for their rotating internship, they can be sure of obtaining an excellent patient care experience," says Richard A. Pascucci, DO, Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Education. "PCOM's internship is very hands-on. Interns can expect to be an integral part of a health care team and the decision-making process.
"The internship program includes patient care responsibility, bedside teaching and academics - all in a supervised teaching environment. Our five affiliated teaching hospital sites further enhance our program by providing interns with exposure to a diverse patient population and pathology.
"A dedicated faculty committed to teaching brings the program together. When interns complete our program they will have received a well-rounded educational experience. They graduate from the program as capable, confident physicians well prepared to be successful first-year residents."
PCOM offers the traditional rotating internship, and, for those clear on their career choice, seven internship specialty tracks - Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Family Practice, ENT, OB/Gyn, Orthopedics and General Surgery.
