Dr. Stewart has been a Professor in the Department of Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology at PCOM since 1994. From 1991 to 1994, Dr. Stewart was a research associate for the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care of the University of Chicago. She completed her doctoral study in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Illinois in Chicago in 1990. She then was a research fellow in the Department of Neurology of the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St. Thomas's Hospital in London, England from 1990 to 1991. She currently teaches in medical and biomedical science courses including gynecology, rheumatology, neuroscience, endocrinology and pharmacology.
Dr. Stewart is a member of the Society for Neuroscience, American Occupational Therapy Association and Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society. She received the Excalibur Award from the Student Council of the College of Associated Health Professions and the Silver Circle Award (AMOCO Foundation Outstanding Teacher Award) during her tenure as an Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Illinois in Chicago.
As the Assistant Director of the Human Performance and Biomechanics Laboratory, Dr. Stewart collaborates with Dr. Michael L. Kuchera. The focus of the studies in the laboratory is on the role and mechanism of osteopathic manipulative treatment and non-conventional therapies in improving function. The diagnostic conditions of the various studies includes: multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, carpal tunnel syndrome, and post-traumatic headache.
