Dr. Tage Kvist has served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Anatomy at PCOM since 1987. He specializes in human development and has participated in teaching the full range of Anatomy courses: gross, histology and neurosciences. Since 1988 he has served on the Philadelphia Anatomy Chairmen's Group. From 1986 to 1990 he served as both Assistant Dean for Basic Sciences and Director of the School of Allied Health at PCOM. Dr. Kvist was Chief of Neurosurgery Research at the Joseph Stokes Jr. Research Institute of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia from 1973 to 1976.
Dr. Kvist's continuous research activities in the field of neural tube development and associated anomalies have been supported by grants from the NIH, the Spina Bifida Foundation, and the Spina Bifida Association of America, among numerous other distinguished foundations for biomedical research. He is a member of several prestigious organizations, including the American Association of Anatomists, the American Association of Clinical Anatomists, and the International Society of Plastination. In 1985 Dr. Kvist received the Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching. Dr. Kvist holds a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania, Postdoctorate at the University of Pennsylvania and master's and bachelor's degrees in Zoology from the University of British Colombia.
