Dr. Sweitzer joined the PCOM faculty in August 2010. She obtained her Ph.D. in school psychology from Temple University. After completing her internship at the Milton Hershey School, she worked as a school psychologist for Gwinnett County Schools (Georgia) practicing as both a school age and early childhood school psychologist.
Dr. Sweitzer completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Special People In Northeast (SPIN), where she specialized in early childhood mental health. Her clinical experiences and professional interests include early childhood social emotional development and assessment, consultation with childcare centers, social skills groups for young children, and parent skills training. Dr. Sweitzer’s research interests involve the implementation of social skills groups and trainings for urban childcare centers, the effectiveness of these strategies in reducing the number of behavioral health referrals for young children, and the relationship between preschool emotional health and later school performance.
Dr. Sweitzer is also interested in researching the familial, educational, and neuro-educational implications of Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcus Infections. She presents workshops and trainings to raise awareness of the disorder.
Dr. Sweitzer is a licensed psychologist and maintains certification as a School Psychologists nationally, and in Pennsylvania and Georgia. She is a member of the National Association of School Psychologists and The Pennsylvania Psychological Association. When not on campus, Dr. Sweitzer enjoys spending time with her husband and three children and running local raod races.
