Diane Smallwood, PsyD, NCSP, Professor, Director of Professional Education in School Psychology, Director of Educational Specialist Degree Program

Dr. Smallwood joined the core faculty for the school psychology programs at PCOM in March of 2004, after working in public schools as a school psychologist for over 25 years.  Dr. Smallwood completed her doctorate in school psychology at Rutgers University (Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology), and earned a master's degree and certification in school psychology at Glassboro State College (now Rowan University). 

In addition to school-based work experience, Dr. Smallwood was an adjunct faculty member at Rider University from 1989 through 2004, and she has also taught graduate courses in school psychology at Rutgers University and Lehigh University. Dr. Smallwood has coauthored articles on behavioral consultation, peer assisted learning and parent involvement, and is the editor of Attention Disorders in Children: Resources for School Psychologists, published by the National Association of School Psychologists in 1997.

For the past 20 years, Dr. Smallwood has been involved in leadership activities at both the state and national levels.  She is a former president of the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), and has served on numerous committees and work groups within NASP.  At the state level, Dr. Smallwood has been an active member of the Executive Board for the New Jersey Association of School Psychologists, serving as president, secretary, regional delegate, chairperson of the Children's Services Committee, and newsletter editor. 

Dr. Smallwood's professional interests include school crisis prevention, intervention and response; social-emotional learning; classroom resiliency; and translating research to practice.
