Today's advanced techniques in imaging of the heart has pushed the bedside diagnosis of cardiovascular disease into the background. Unfortunately, the insurance companies are not always paying for the newest imaging studies. This can leave the primary care physician to question what study is right for their patient. The Albert D'Alonzo, D.O. Memorial lectures will refresh and renew the interest of the primary care physician in bedside diagnosis for the cardiovascular patient. The symposium will go over the bedside history and physical examination of the commonly encountered murmurs, valvular disease, cardiomyopathies and peripheral vascular disease. These lectures will help point you in the direction of which study will give you the most information for your patient.
Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Describe the importance of the cardiac history.
- Explain how to evaluate neck veins and arteries.
- Discuss the value of chest inspection and palpations.
- Appraise the significance of systolic and diastolic murmurs, valvular disease, cardiomyopathies and peripheral vascular disease.
