MS in Counseling & Clinical Health Psychology Course Sequence

The MS Program is typically completed in two years but can be extended to five years at maximum.  Both tracks of the MS Program in Counseling and Clinical Health Psychology have three major components: (1) completing the sequence of courses; (2) completing a minimum of three trimesters of practicum experience (700 hours); and (3) passing the three-part comprehensive examination.  Students generally follow a recommended sequence of required courses.  This sequence permits groups of students to move through the program together, building group cohesiveness and fostering relationships with colleagues. 

During their first term students meet with their Academic Advisors to plan their curricula according to their individual needs; plans can be adjusted over time to take into account new course offerings and/or changed goals, needs, or self-perceptions of each student.  Students meet with their Academic Advisors at least twice a year to discuss their progress.

For full-time students, the foundational curriculum is typically completed in the first year of the program and the advanced curriculum is completed in the second year of the program.  The advanced curriculum corresponds to specific tracks: the General Track and the Addictions and Offender Counseling Track.
