Time to Completion

The average time to complete the Clinical PsyD program for those who graduated from 2006-2007 through 2012-2013 is 6.27 years, the median is 6 years, and the most frequently occurring completion time (mode) is 5 years.  Specifically, 46% completed in 5 years, 16% completed in 6 years, 17% completed in 7 years, and 21% completed in more than 7 years.  These data reflect all graduates from 2006 to present.  Changes made to the course sequence during that time period have made it more feasible for students to begin the dissertation process sooner, thereby shortening their time to complete the program.  The program is designed to be completed in 5 years.  The average time to completion for graduates who entered the program from 2005 to present is 5.1 years.

Clinical PsyD tuition for the 2013-14 academic year is $1052 per credit ($32,610 total for year one) and the comprehensive fee is $181 per term (for campus technology, library services, gym access, after hours parking, and Student Government funding).  Students will incur additional fees for items including assessment materials purchased in year two (the average cost per student in 2013 was $874, with costs ranging from $842 to $889), texts (year one average: $1368, year two average: $2051, years three and beyond vary based on electives), and dissertation binding (for 2013, the binding fee is $20 per copy).  For more information about program tuition and fees, please contact the Bursar's Office at BursarOffice@pcom.edu or 215-871-6190.  Click here for information on Financial Aid. 

The Psychology Department provides opportunities for students to earn money for their educational expenses through Graduate Assistant (GA) and Work Study positions.  Students may apply for GA positions through the Psychology Department.  Work Study positions are need-based, self-help federally funded financial aid packages for which students apply through the Student Affairs Office.  On average, doctoral students in these positions work 10-15 hours per week at $12/hour.  Click here for more information.  Teaching Fellowships and Teaching/Lab Assistant positions are also available for advanced students.

Attrition

*Reasons for attrition include personal and family medical illness, geographic relocation, unplanned family crisis, change in financial situation, or failure to return from leave of absences.  90.5% of attrition (19 students total) as shown above was for the aforementioned personal reasons.  Academic dismissal accounted for only 9.5% of attrition (2 students total).

Licensure Outcomes of Graduates

Of the Clinical PsyD program's 219 graduates between 2004 and 2011 (the most recent year of license-eligible graduates), 148 (68%) have become licensed psychologists.  These data are based upon information available on state licensure websites, therefore may not capture the most recent pool of licensed psychologists.  Based on data reported in our 2009 APA Self Study, of those graduates who were unlicensed, over 87% were planning to seek licensure with 66.7% obtaining hours toward licensure at that time.  Of interest, almost 50% of the group reported that they were also planning to eventually obtain the diplomate in clinical psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology.
