Assistant Professor in Pharmaceutical Sciences
Dr. Rayalam graduated from the University of Georgia, Athens, GA, USA with a Ph.D in Pharmacology. Prior to that, Dr. Rayalam earned a bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (equivalent to DVM) and also a master’s degree in Veterinary Science from SV Veterinary University (formerly ANGRAU), Andhra Pradesh, India.
Dr. Rayalam is the recipient of the first ‘Virbac Animal Health - Soloxine Award’ for her work on feline Thyrotropin during her doctoral program and is a Morris Animal foundation Fellow. After a brief stint as a post-doctoral fellow, Dr. Rayalam worked as a research scientist in the Dept. of Animal and Dairy Science at the University of Georgia for over 6 years before joining
the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy as an Assistant Professor.
Her major research interests are in the fields of obesity, osteoporosis and phytochemicals. Dr. Rayalam has authored/co-authored over 30 articles published in peer-reviewed journals and contributed several chapters to the text/reference books for DVM and graduate students. Her work on phytochemicals and obesity is patented and has been cited in several magazines including Women’s World. In addition to research, Dr. Rayalam enjoys teaching and has taught undergraduate classes while at University of Georgia.
Dr. Rayalam is interested in developing interdisciplinary research projects and would love to discuss any
prospects for collaborations in her areas of research.
