Physician Assistant

What sets PCOM's Physician Assistant program apart from others in the region—or nation for that matter? It might be that the first-time pass rate for our graduates on the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam is exceptionally high. Or perhaps it is the fact that program graduates are so highly valued by employers that half pursue active job leads before graduation. Then again it could be that PCOM has the most up-to-date labs and learning environment and that the program is the only one in Pennsylvania housed within an osteopathic medical school.

The reality is that all of these factors set us apart. In addition, expert faculty, many of whom work as physician assistants on the front lines, keep their skills current and stay relevant within the field. Frankly, there isn’t a richer learning environment than PCOM—where students and educators interact and collaborate with one another.

In the PA program, students get hands-on experiences early in the course of their studies. They work with standardized patient-actors who play the role of patients with specific medical histories, train in modern medical facilities for clinical rotations and benefit from clinician-patient encounters in PCOM's community Healthcare Centers. Leaders from facilities where PCOM PA students complete rotations confirm that they have solid grounding as generalists and are highly skilled, compassionate medical professionals who are well prepared and eager for the work at hand.

Graduates of the Physician Assistant program go on to careers in hospital and emergency department settings, surgical centers, rural and urban clinics, private medical practices and nursing homes. Look in nearly any specialty within medicine and you'll find a physician assistant at work. With fast growth in the field predicted until 2018 and beyond, there's never been a better time to investigate the profession.
