Professor, Pharmacology

Mary P. Owen, Ph.D., J.D., is Professor of Pharmacology at the Georgia Campus, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.  Dr. Owen grew up in Centre, Ala., and graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa with a B.S. in chemistry.  She graduated from the Medical College of Georgia with an M.S. in cell and molecular biology and a Ph.D. in pharmacology.

Following her post doctoral studies at University of California at Los Angeles Medical School, she taught pharmacology, physiology and toxicology courses and conducted research at the University of California at Los Angeles Medical School, the University of Vermont School of Medicine, the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford and Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science.

Dr. Owen left Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science to attend law school at Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, N.H., where she earned her law degree.  She is currently a member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia.

Dr. Owen has conducted research on the cardiovascular system in normal health and disease states.  This research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association and Deborah Research Institute.  She has served on grant review committees including that of the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association and Deborah Research Institute and she has served as a reviewer of manuscripts for several major research journals.  Dr. Owen has published extensively in her area of research and has received numerous invitations to speak at national and international research symposia.
