Overview

The Center for Community Outreach (CCO) is affiliated with both the Eastcentral and Northcentral Pennsylvania Area Health Education Centers (AHEC).  The overall mission of AHEC, a community-based non-profit organization, is to help communities increase access to primary health care in medically underserved areas. This is accomplished by recruiting third and fourth year medical students to their region by offering 8-week rural clinical rotations. In addition, AHEC also promotes public health initiatives and educates the community through health promotion programs.

The CCO collaborates with AHEC to provide community-based health promotion programs in rural underserved areas on topics such as obesity, cardiac health, and smoking cessation.  The CCO recently completed a Healthy Lifestyles program in Jim Thorpe, PA and is currently planning on additional projects.
